Hello hello! It's been a while since my last post.
It started with a phone call from my mom who was at our local Blockbuster checking out new releases to see which one I would be interested in watching. Of course I already had Pandorum in mind because the previews on tv and whatnot seemed quite intense. I told her to get whatever cause I just wanted to end the night in a good mood. By the time we finally settled down in our family room to pop in a dvd, my dad just got home from work and so we started movie night with District 9.
Aliens living in Johannesburg, there's site to see. While watching the movie I was thinking the whole time, "If they're suppose to be nice to the aliens, why are they such DICKS to them?" If you haven't seen District 9 yet, it's about aliens who's space craft like died in the Earth's atmosphere and it hovers over Johannesburg, S.Africa. After finding the aliens, an organization called MNU tries to create a living space for the aliens, in which they are called "prawns". Basically the MNU is evicting all the residences in the slums of District 9 to District 10. Now District 9 is actually like the first movie where I wanted the main character to die. Wikus Van de Merwe, played by Sharlto Copley, was a cocky, selfish, stubborn s.o.b. All he did was care about himself during the majority of the film. The only time you see him change his mind and decides to help a certain prawn to make it back to the ship was towards the end. All in all I thought the movie was aight. Only cool parts were pretty much when Wikus blew up everyone with the alien weapons. It gets pretty bloody and gory so if you have a weak stomach, I recommend you shield your eyes.

I ended my night with Pandorum and I must say, I pretty much fell in love with Ben Foster even more. I thought that Pandorum was better than District 9. I mean come on, who wouldn't want to wake up after being in hypersleep for who knows how long only to find out that something is wrong with the ship? What I dislike the most is when the movie trailers has nothing to do with the actual movie line. They make it seem like it's a life or death situation against the creatures in the movie BUT really Pandorum is the effect of going crazy and hallucinating after being in hypersleep for too long. The creatures were just a mere obstacle course for the main characters to get to the reactor in order to reboot the ship. The creatures weren't as scary as I assumed them to be. They reminded me of Orcs from Lord of the Rings (My all time favorite trilogy on film), so it made it bearable when they popped up out of nowhere. The action in this movie was pretty good, the twist in the plot was excellent, and all the character had a purpose in the movie which I like.

I would recommend Pandorum over District 9 any day. If you're into sci-fi movies with horror thrown in, go for Pandorum.
