Pandorum in District 9?

***THIS ENTRY CONTAINS SOME PLOT SPOILERS!***

Hello hello! It's been a while since my last post.

It started with a phone call from my mom who was at our local Blockbuster checking out new releases to see which one I would be interested in watching. Of course I already had Pandorum in mind because the previews on tv and whatnot seemed quite intense. I told her to get whatever cause I just wanted to end the night in a good mood. By the time we finally settled down in our family room to pop in a dvd, my dad just got home from work and so we started movie night with District 9.

Aliens living in Johannesburg, there's site to see. While watching the movie I was thinking the whole time, "If they're suppose to be nice to the aliens, why are they such DICKS to them?" If you haven't seen District 9 yet, it's about aliens who's space craft like died in the Earth's atmosphere and it hovers over Johannesburg, S.Africa. After finding the aliens, an organization called MNU tries to create a living space for the aliens, in which they are called "prawns". Basically the MNU is evicting all the residences in the slums of District 9 to District 10. Now District 9 is actually like the first movie where I wanted the main character to die. Wikus Van de Merwe, played by Sharlto Copley, was a cocky, selfish, stubborn s.o.b. All he did was care about himself during the majority of the film. The only time you see him change his mind and decides to help a certain prawn to make it back to the ship was towards the end. All in all I thought the movie was aight. Only cool parts were pretty much when Wikus blew up everyone with the alien weapons. It gets pretty bloody and gory so if you have a weak stomach, I recommend you shield your eyes.

----------------------------------------

I ended my night with Pandorum and I must say, I pretty much fell in love with Ben Foster even more. I thought that Pandorum was better than District 9. I mean come on, who wouldn't want to wake up after being in hypersleep for who knows how long only to find out that something is wrong with the ship? What I dislike the most is when the movie trailers has nothing to do with the actual movie line. They make it seem like it's a life or death situation against the creatures in the movie BUT really Pandorum is the effect of going crazy and hallucinating after being in hypersleep for too long. The creatures were just a mere obstacle course for the main characters to get to the reactor in order to reboot the ship. The creatures weren't as scary as I assumed them to be. They reminded me of Orcs from Lord of the Rings (My all time favorite trilogy on film), so it made it bearable when they popped up out of nowhere. The action in this movie was pretty good, the twist in the plot was excellent, and all the character had a purpose in the movie which I like.

For more info on Pandorum, visit the official movie site HERE.

I would recommend Pandorum over District 9 any day. If you're into sci-fi movies with horror thrown in, go for Pandorum.

Julie & Julia

I watched Julie and Julia with my cousin and it got me craving for food...even though I already had dinner at Buca's, it didn't stop me from drooling, sorta. To go through a cookbook within a year with 524 recipes is just CRAZY! I can't even commit to cleaning my room for a day. I applaud Julie for taking the time to make her way in Julia's cookbook. I thought the movie was funny and inspirational. On the contrary, I thought the film kinda dragged on a bit longer than I expected.

During the movie, my cousin and I discussed about doing a project just like Julie's except, we'd go through a Hmong cookbook since we're Hmong. That'd be quite interesting but most Hmong recipes are a dabble from other Asian ethnicities, in my view at least. Sometimes I daydream that our kitchen at home was bigger and I had all the ingredients from all over the world to cook delicious meals at home...but what can you do when you're poor and don't have a job :/

Overall, the movie was okay. Meryl Streeps's voice was really annoying and it's quite sad that I can imitate it quite well. I love movies that deal with cooking...then again it reminds me that my cooking skills are only mediocre.

Until then,

New Cpop boy group M.I.C. coming soon!

Now lately I've really been into Kpop music after being drawn back into it after a 5 year hiatus. As much as I LOVEEEEE my Kpop boy groups, I have to say I'm looking forward for this Cpop, thats right I said CPOP, boy group called M.I.C. to debut.

I first heard of M.I.C. when they were to release another version of the LG Lollipop phone song, specifically targeting the Chinese market, with Kpop girl girl f(x). After watching the music vid I decided I would find out more about this boy group...in which I haven't yet but! they are pretty good from what I've observed so far.

Many fans of the Big Bang/2NE1 version of the Lollipop song have been pretty biased. I mean come on, give this version a chance at least. Did they forget that 2 members of f(x) is CHINESE. Plus this song is targeting the market in CHINA by LG. It's not like they intended to market to Korea, they already did that with BB and 2NE1.

Back to M.I.C., I sampled two of their songs on youtube and I like them, because they are catchy and hey it's in Chinese. It's nice to hear other languages sometimes you know? Their rapper is pretty good at English, sounds like he's almost fluent, who knows, maybe he's from the states! I really do look forward for them to debut and I hope they debut soon!

YOU BE THE JUDGE! (Don't forget to turn off the music on the side bar...to the left :)

Lollipop - f(x)/M.I.C version (Chinese)

Lollipop - Big Bang/2NE1 version (Korean)

M.I.C - 要命烦恼 (idk what it says lol)

Daybreakers

I watched Daybreakers today and I must say it was pretty okay. It was slow and the action was kinda slow too but it had me jumping. I admit, I was on the edge of my seat! The creatures, scared me, literally. Esp when they popped out of nowhere. I would recommend it if you love blood and gore. If you're into Twilight and you're pretty squimish, don't go, these vampires don't sparkle.

I used to wish/daydream about how life would be as a vampire, but now when I look back on it, I would rather be a werewolf, at least they can be human and run during the day time. And you only turn like once a month.
